El Bolson is located in the south most part of the Province of Río Negro(almost in the border with the Province of Chubut), and 7 km away of the border with Chile. El Bolson is 125 KM to the south of Bariloche, Río Negro and 170 kms to the north of Esquel, Chubut, along the "Ruta Nacional Nº 258"(National Highway Nº 258), which is completely asphalted.

It is possible to reach it by Plane, the city of Bariloche, operates national and international flights with the following airlines: Aerolíneas Argentinas, Lapa, SW, Dinar, LADE, SAPSA y TAN. Several flights are scheduled daily. Esquel operates national and international flights with the following airlines: LADE and Aerolíneas Argentinas. It also has several scheduled flights daily.

The name of the place comes from the peculiar shape taken by the geography of the area, a valley surrounded by mountains that take the shape of a huge bag, which in Spanish can be translated to Bolson. El Bolson transmits a warm and cozy feeling. Like its inhabitants, El Bolson is always waiting to be enjoyed. Who ever visits Bolson can´t miss the chance to witness some of its best locales. The main access route from the north is the National Highway Nº 258 which joins El Bolson with San Carlos de Bariloche, for a distance of 120 KM. completely paved, the highway goes around mountains, forests, lakes and into small valleys; the trip itself is beautiful. From the south the main access is also the National Highway Nº 258, which joins El Bolson with Esquel, for a distance of 180 km.

Reaching El Bolson is rather easy, there are plenty of bus companies that can take you to El Bolson from any major spot in Argentina. The main option is to travel to San Carlos de Bariloche, from there buses go to El Bolson, with services going out approximately every two hours. The same can be done if you decide to go to the city of Esquel instead. If you wish to go by plane there are flights going to Bariloche and Esquel from almost anywhere in the country, from there taking a bus is the only option though.
